SAN JOSÉ, CA – Vice Mayor Chappie Jones is proud to partner with Qathena to launch their platform “Fuel our Frontline” in the West San José Innovation Zone. Qathena’s platform allows frontline workers to purchase meals from local restaurants based entirely on community donations. This pilot will serve our small businesses and allow the community a platform to give back to our frontline workers.

Vice Mayor Chappie Jones, creator of the Innovation Zone states, “Qathena understands that the pandemic highlights the sacrifices and challenges our frontline workers make every day.  They created a vision of leveraging innovation to support our local businesses and frontline workers. I am proud to have them as an Innovation Zone partner as they launch this exciting platform.”  By signing up, local businesses will be able to engage with this pilot program for free. After the pilot, there will be a platform use fee of $1 per day.

Community members can use the platform to donate, which results in credits that are redeemable by frontline workers at local food establishments. Frontline workers for the pilot project currently include those who work at O’Connor Hospital and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Only those with a verified frontline worker user account can access the donated funds for use on the platform.

Qathena CEO Kenny Yuen shares, “Qathena, in partnership with City of San José’s Vice Mayor Jones and Cybertrust America, is excited to launch the Fuel Our Frontline campaign to provide local residents and community members a platform to donate in supporting frontline workers and first responders.  The donated funds will be distributed to our local heroes which they can order from different local “marketplace” restaurants.  This is a true win-win for local businesses and a well-deserved thank you for frontline workers.” The platform is now live and can be accessed at fuelfrontline.com where community members can explore local business partners, see what frontline workers can access the donations, and make contributions.

The donations are handled through the non-profit Cybertrust America who manages the funds for distribution. Cybertrust CEO Lan Jenson shares, “The Fuel Our Frontline campaign supports our community's heroes and restaurants at a time of need. Together our city rises above the COVID pandemic thanks to our community members' big hearts, the government's leadership, innovators' ingenuity, and nonprofits' accountability. Cybertrust America is proud to support this initiative while protecting all stakeholders data safety and security.”
