City hall tour request

Vice Mayor Chappie Jones’ office can help to coordinate a tour of City Hall on the day of a Council meeting (most Tuesdays) for students of schools located in District 1. These tours are meant to introduce our youth to local government and get them engaged with civic processes through fun and motivating experiences at City Hall.
The day generally includes a tour of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. library, a tour of San José City Hall, a brief meet & greet with Vice Mayor Jones and Mayor Sam Liccardo, and an opportunity for students to lead the pledge of allegiance at the City Council meeting. You are welcome to request a shorter, partial tour and work with my staff on what best fits your schedule.

Suggested Schedule Breakdown:
10:00 a.m. Tour of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library
11:00 a.m. Tour of City Hall & Lunch in City Hall Plaza
1:00 p.m. Meet & Greet with Councilmember Chappie Jones
1:15 p.m. Meet & Greet with Mayor Liccardo (time permitting)
1:30 p.m. City Council Meeting & Pledge of Allegiance
2:00 p.m. Departure back to school

Those who apply for a tour must:
  • Be from a school located in District 1
  • Have a class size no larger than 60 students per tour
  • Include a lead chaperone/teacher as the point of contact for Council office staff to follow up with
Expenses to reserve buses for the student’s tours are reimbursed through my office at the end of each fiscal year. If you are interested in applying for a City Hall Tour through my office, then please fill out the form below. Annale Damabeh from my office will follow up with the tour coordinator from your school. Email her or give our office a call at (408) 535-4901.
