I am pleased to inform you that the city will be installing a new enhanced crosswalk across Hamilton Avenue at Latimer Avenue. This crosswalk will improve the safety of school children crossing from the Hathaway neighborhood to Latimer Elementary School and Moreland Middle School. The design of this sidewalk is based on the results of studies by our Department of Transportation (DOT) and community feedback.
The enhanced crosswalk will include a center island refuge, flashing lights, and “bump outs” near the existing curbs that provide for a more secure crossing. Great addition to the neighborhood!
Update 09-2016 – We have launched a webpage with the full details of the pilot residential parking permit program here.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) has been collecting parking data in neighborhoods along Winchester Boulevard as they begin to create a detailed parking profile of each neighborhood. This detailed data will allow us to better understand the current conditions in the neighborhoods in order to ensure the new program and policy will be successful.
The detailed profiling is a process that takes time. In July, we will reconvene our parking permit advisory group to review the DOT data gathered, to date, and discuss next steps. This group is composed of neighbors from each of the neighborhoods along Winchester Boulevard.
We will continue to share an update each month, and hope to have a more detailed update very soon.
