Update 09-2016 – We have launched a webpage with the full details of the pilot residential parking permit program here.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) is continuing to work towards implementation of the Pilot Residential Parking Permit Program in District 1. DOT, working with my office, convened a small focus group of residents from each of the neighborhoods along Winchester Boulevard. The focus group provided valuable feedback to DOT in their work to update the policies of the pilot program. The challenge that is being worked out currently is twofold. First, restarting the parking permit program that has been dormant for years. Second, retooling the program to address a different type of need than the previous program was built to address.
DOT plans to reconvene this focus group once they have an opportunity to adjust their plans based on the feedback they received at the first meeting. Additionally, DOT is working with my office to convene an additional focus group composed of apartment dwellers along Winchester Boulevard, which was a group underrepresented at the first focus group meeting.
We plan to hold a larger community meeting with the full draft proposal once it is finalized so that all neighbors will have a chance to participate and give input. I know that for many this program has not moved fast enough, but we are a long ways away from where we were a year ago. I am committed to seeing this program through. I will be sure to continue updating you on the progress.
