“A popular Government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a prologue to a farce or a tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.”
— former U.S. President James Madison, 1822

Open Government in San Jose

I believe in open and transparent government. Just as important, is the ability for the public to quickly and easily find access to public documents.

Click here to read an article that I wrote about open government in San José. Two weeks after this article was published, the San Jose Mercury News published a front page story written by Executive Editor Susan Goldberg about the same issue.

This topic has been extensively covered in the San Jose Mercury News. For additional information about the issues facing the city, I have provided a link to the Mercury News special section about Open Government in San Jose.

Demonstrating my commitment to practices of open government, I will post all public documents that pertain to my service as an elected official on this page of the website. Every effort will be made to have the documents posted here as soon as practical after they are filed with the appropriate agency.

I hope that by taking this step of commitment to open government, others will follow suit. This will ensure that all interested parties have unfettered access to public documents.
