Pizarro: Flying Colors
Tuesday, March 25, 2008
By Sal Pizarro, Mercury News

You may have noticed a new flag flying at San Jose City Hall this week. It's the flag of Greece - raised to commemorate Greek Independence Day today.

Normally, flag-raising ceremonies are held during the week, but San Jose City Councilman Pete Constant - whose father immigrated to the United States from Greece - wanted it to take place last Saturday so more families could attend.

"My father came here with nothing and built a better life for his family through hard work and determination," Constant said. "He also taught us to be proud of our Greek heritage, through our church and, of course, Greek food."
