District 1 Leadership Group Meeting Notes
Saturday, June 9, 2007
9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
West Valley Library
Here is just a brief overview of what was discussed:
Role the Leadership Group Should Play
- Recruit District 1 residents and engage them in the process while also helping them to become leaders
- Foster relationships with people who want to start neighborhood associations and serve as a mentor in helping them build a successful organization
- Engage other groups and encourage their participation, including condominium groups, business associations, youth soccer leagues, etc.
- A forum for an exchange of information amongst District 1 neighborhood associations
Make Up of the Leadership Group
Leaders representing neighborhood, community, and business organizations within District 1.
Formal or Informal
Discussion led to it being an organized group that would work on an informal and formal basis, so the first portion of the will follow an agenda and the tail end of the meeting will be reserved for open discussion.
Meeting Schedule
3rd Saturday of every other month from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at a place to be determined based on room availability.
District One and Citywide Issues
During the meeting, the group selected several District and Citywide issues that they hoped to focus on. These topics included:
- Secondary Units
- Budget
- Sports Field Usage
- Issuance of permits for use of park facilities on weekends
- Police enforcement issues
- Creation of a document that explains complex issues facing the city that includes pros and cons
Next Steps
- Continue discussion on structure and issues
- Develop plan going forward
