Housing, Financial, and tax resources
- If COVID-19 has impacted your ability to file your state income tax return on time, you can file for an extension up to June 15, 2020.
- Property Taxes are still due on April 10 2020. Property owners can request a penalty cancellation. More information can be found here.
- DMV continues to provide essential services to Californians by mail, through available online services, kiosks, virtually and other means to continue processing critical transactions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Field offices are temporarily closed to the public statewide beginning March 27. All appointments at this time have been canceled and no appointments are currently available. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today asked California law enforcement to exercise discretion for 60 days in their enforcement of driver license and vehicle registration expiration dates beginning March 16, 2020. The DMV is taking this action so that at-risk populations, including seniors and those with underlying health conditions, can avoid required visits to DMV field offices for driver license or vehicle registration renewals.

Domestic Violence Resources
- Santa Clara County Domestic Violence Agencies are open and supporting clients by phone and online in multiple languages during the COVID-19 crisis. They can connect survivors with critical emergency services, including shelter and food.
- SafeChatSV was created by a partnership of local domestic violence agencies to provide online chat services seven days a week to survivors of gender-based violence in Santa Clara County.
- Hours: Monday through Wednesday from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Thursday and Friday from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and 1 pm to 10 pm. Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 9 pm
- National Domestic Violence Hotline provides highly trained expert advocates that are available 24/7 to talk confidentially with anyone in the United States who is experiencing domestic violence, seeking resources or information, or questioning unhealthy aspects of their relationship. They will connect clients to local resources if they call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).
- Futures Without Violence provides credible and accurate information related to health and relief for survivors from national experts, including COVID-19 resources for domestic violence survivors and service providers.

Public Transportation Updates
Modification to services and changes to public transportation have been implemented. For community safety, the following services have new safety parameters and ask the community to practice social distancing.
- Caltrain
- Due to significant reductions in ridership resulting from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Caltrain will further reduce weekday train service indefinitely starting Monday, March 30.
The modified weekday schedule will operate 42 trains per day, rather than the usual 92. Trains will make all local weekday stops between San Jose and San Francisco every 30-60 minutes, depending on time of day. Caltrain will continue operating two Gilroy service trains during the morning and afternoon peak commute. Limited and Baby Bullet service will be suspended until further notice.
The updated weekday schedule will be available at www.caltrain.com.
- Due to significant reductions in ridership resulting from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Caltrain will further reduce weekday train service indefinitely starting Monday, March 30.
- Valley Transportation Authority
- Effective 3/26/20 light rail service is suspended until further notice. Effective 3/30/20 and until further notice, VTA will be running reduced bus service. Routes will be suspended or come less often, and most service will end at 9 p.m. VTA has launched a campaign on their website that will have up to date information related to COVID-19. VTA has been closely monitoring COVID-19, and has been staying in contact with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to closely follow best practices in slowing the spread of this virus.
