Proclamations and Commendations
Proclamations
A proclamation is a public announcement made by an elected official that proclaims a day, week, or month for a specific cause or issue. For example, Mayor Reed and the City Council declared a Police Memorial Week in May.
Members of the San Jose City Council are given the ability to issue proclamations to highlight issues and events important to the cultural history of the local community.
Commendations
A commendation is similar to a proclamation in that it is a public announcement, but differs in that it usually recognizes a specific individual or group for their contributions to the community.
