It has been brought to my attention by some residents that our district parks are in need of attention. With the recent increase of downed trees, weed growth, and overall damage to our parks due to the past few months of rain, one of the questions that I am consistently asked is: How do our parks get to this point?
I’d first like to mention that our city dealt with a severe flood during that period of much-needed rain, and our Parks Department was called to assist in the clean up after the flood waters had receded. During that time, our parks received the bare minimum amount of maintenance, if any maintenance at all. With that being said, I requested that my staff meet with our Parks Maintenance Supervisor and do an individual park by park inspection, where we worked together to create a plan for addressing the concerns you have shared with my office.
I know that our Parks Department is currently working on those issues and continues to work diligently to address the large work order that we have put together. I ask that you be patient and give the parks department time to work on these issues. Also, please keep in mind that our park maintenance staff are responsible for all the park maintenance in council districts 1,3,6,7 and 9 and they share the same issues we are experiencing in our district parks. I will continue to update you with our progress. Feel free to contact my office with any additional issues or concerns at (408) 535-4901 or [email protected].
