Last year, a property owner from Rebecca Way came to my office with a problem — the driveway that her building shares with 13 other small apartment buildings was in horrible disrepair. The challenge was bringing all of the property owners together to agree to fix the problem. At first, this seemed like a monumental task given the number and the commitment to investment that was required.
After months of working with the various property owners and also working closely with the City’s Code Enforcement Department, my office hosted a meeting with all of the property owners where they have agreed to work together and fix the driveway. We will also be working with these property owners to establish a property owner’s association for their community. These small victories help unite our community, and help improve District 1.
As a former neighborhood association president, I believe strongly in the power of having all of our neighborhoods and communities organized whether that be an HOA, a neighborhood association, a tenant’s association, or a property owner’s association. If you know of any neighborhood or community that needs assistance in forming an association please contact us!
